17th Tsunami Memorial Reception in 2022 – ‘SUPPORT CHILDREN AFFECTED BY VIOLENCE IN SRI LANKA’

Our focus that year was on raising funds to assist children affected by violence, highlighted by the fact that in the previous 12 months alone more than 10 children were subjected to physical violence and sexual abuse before being murdered in Sri Lanka.

Children, wherever they are, irrespective of race, caste and creed, must be protected as they are defenceless.

We cannot compare the system in Sri Lanka with that of the UK, but what is obvious is inadequate resources, training and a continuous lack of initiative on the part of the relevant state departments and organisations, to put into practice effectively the existing laws and/or to enact new laws to guarantee the safety of children.

This still needs to be addressed.
Our project was a first step to raise awareness of the need to recognise children’s right to life, safety, self-respect and self-esteem.
We have supported homes who provide child protection and offer a good quality of life in the best interests of children.

Methsevana Disabled Home in Ambilipitiya,
Vivekananda Girl’s home in Valaichchenai Batticaloa and
Saliyapura Children’s Home in Anuradhapura.

There are so many children are from impoverished backgrounds,
We donated some funds raised but there is a lot more to be done for child protection in Sri Lanka.
